Screenplay Readings
The Urbanworld Film Festival will present the 5 finalists in the Screenplay Category to invited festival attendees in an intimate event, where their works will be performed live. Each finalist will stage a performance of their chosen screenplay scene, with actors breathing life into each selected work. Industry veteran and recognized acting coach, Tracey Moore, will direct the writers/actors in various scenes to ensure compelling performances for this popular festival event.

INSIDE Urbanworld
INSIDE Urbanworld provides festival attendees with an intimate spotlight on one of today’s leading talents in the industry. This one–on–one, candid conversation provides a unique glimpse into the journey of a celebrated actor, director, or producer within the film industry. Featured guests discuss topics such as breaking into and thriving in the business, charting one’s destiny, honing one»s craft, as well as both the successes achieved and challenges faced throughout their career. These memorable, informative, and entertaining dialogues also offer featured guests the opportunity to share perspectives on life and aspirations outside of the film business. Past talent spotlight guests have included: Samuel L. Jackson, Vondie Curtis Hall, Billy Dee Williams, Malcolm Lee and Rosie Perez.
This year’s INSIDE Urbanworld talent spotlight will feature Oscar nominated actress Queen Latifah in a special interview taking place at New York’s DGA Theater, where she will discuss her highly anticipated lead role in the Fox Searchlight film, The Secret Life Of Bees, which will hit NYC in a special screening as Urbanworld’s Closing Night Film on September 13, and then hit theaters nationwide on October 17.
DGA Luncheon
Each year, the Director’s Guild of America (DGA) hosts a luncheon saluting film Directors accepted into the Urbanworld Film Festival. This year, DGA member, Gina Prince–Bythewood (The Secret Life Of Bees, Love & Basketball), will be the featured speaker addressing emerging filmmakers. Participating festival filmmakers have the opportunity to convene, network, and celebrate their accomplishments at this intimate DGA luncheon event.

Urbanworld After Dark parties will immediately follow the festival's special screenings and premieres, providing a relaxed social atmosphere for filmmakers and festival attendees.

Award’s Brunch
On Sunday, September 14, the Urbanworld Film Festival will recognize and celebrate the winning filmmakers across the festival’s competition categories, with various cash prizes awarded. This intimate event will include filmmakers, sponsors, film category jurors, industry representatives, and selected press covering the event. Festival winners will be announced the following day with a press release distributed widely to various media outlets.
